KAREN RIETHMULLER

Karen Riethmuller’s work explores the concept of femininity as a social construction and it’s relationship with the photographic image. Her practice is informed by an interest in beauty, artifice and idealised femininity. This is consolidated by extensive research into the history of aesthetics.

​Karen is an emerging contemporary artist who lives and works in Sydney. She has recently completed a Master of Fine Arts at UNSW Art & Design and has exhibited in several group shows at Sydney galleries, including UNSW Galleries, Wellington St Studios, Kudos, Gaffa and Gallery Lane Cove. Karen’s work Superstar (2019) is a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award 2020. Karen is an active member of several artist collectives and her work is held in private collections in Australia and the UK.
